Always Remembered, Forever Loved
In Loving Memory of
Leonard Whitaker
August 16, 1945 – January 12, 2025
Leonard Whitaker was born in Santa Monica, California, on August 16, 1945, and passed away peacefully on January 12, 2025, at Country Manor Healthcare in Lakeview Terrace, where he received exceptional care.
A proud veteran of the United States Army, Leonard lived with a service-connected disability and found strength in his enduring relationship with the Veterans Administration. His resilience, quiet courage, and unwavering dignity served as an inspiration to all who knew him.
Leonard’s warm and engaging spirit left a lasting impression on those around him. He treasured morning coffee chats with longtime friends and neighbors in West Los Angeles, and found joy in outings with his brother George —whether heading to Starbucks or embarking on spontaneous day trips.
A devoted sports fan, Leonard closely followed the Atlanta Braves and Green Bay Packers, and delighted in visits to Dodger Stadium. His passion for baseball and football was first kindled as a child, listening to games with his beloved grandfather, Leonard Williams.
As a child, Leonard attended Phillips Chapel CME Church, in Santa Monica with his mother, Mary Whitaker and father, Roger Whitaker, along with his siblings and other family members. Leonard became a lifelong and faithful member of Phillips Chapel. His quiet commitment and compassionate service earned him the church’s Unsung Hero Award. His faith, generosity, and devotion to family and community were the hallmarks of a life well lived.
Leonard Whitaker will be remembered for his gentle heart, strong spirit, and the joy he brought into the lives of others. His memory will live on through the stories, laughter, and love he leaves behind.
Family and friends were able to express love, gratitude, cherished memories and peace in Leonard’s final days until we see him again.
